Latin American Song at the DC KIPP Charter Schools- The Will Academy
In October 2013, a group of PASO musicians gave a presentation and concert at the Will Academy (5th -8th graders), a KIPP Charter School in Washington, DC that included geography and history of Argentina. The presentation introduced 5th graders to the rhythms, melodies and instruments that make the unique music of Argentina. The students also had a chance to sing the classic "Caminito" with the PASO ensemble.
Lead by Maestro Sergio Buslje, the ensemble included violinist Valerie Heller, violist Kristin Gomez, cellist Joanna Taylor and bassist Pete Ostle. Argentine Claudia Garguilo joined the group to sing different tango classics and lead the class in singing.along. PASO has since returned to the Will Academy on three occasions to introduce students to other Latin American music and instruments.
