Astor Piazzolla forever changed Argentine tango with his nuevo tango. After studying composition in Paris in the 1950's and learning the harmonic language of Bartok, Schoenberg, and Messiaen and the rhythms of Stravinsky and American jazz, Piazzolla returned to Argentina, put together his famous Quintet and introduced the world to nuevo tango. As Piazzolla himself said, “It may not be tango, but it mirrors the spirit of our city and of today’s porteño [native of Buenos Aires]”. With Latin Grammy winner, Rodolfo Zanetti, on bandoneon, Pablo Estigarribia on piano, and a pair of tango dancers, the orchestra brings you an evening of Piazzolla's most beautiful melodies and exuberant  rhythms, reflecting the timeless elegance and energy of Buenos Aires today.

Admission:  $55 and $65, reserved seating. Tickets can be purchased through the Kennedy Center by calling 202-467-4600 or toll-free 800-444-1324 or in person at the box office (Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., Sundays and holidays, 12 - 9 p.m.)
