ANAMER CASTRELLO, Mezzo-Soprano. Praised by the Washington Post as "the richest and most expressive voice... Castrello has enough wattage to light a small town," mezzo-soprano Anamer Castrello, a native of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, stands out as one of the most impressive and versatile artists and singers in the Washington, DC, area. She holds a MM in Opera Performance from the University of Maryland, an MA in Music Education for Colleges and Universities from New York University and a BA in Humanities with a concentration in Piano from the University of Puerto Rico. Her classic work has delighted audiences in appearances with the Pan American Symphony Orchestra, Opera Camerata of Washington, Shakespeare Theatre, Opera Americana, The Other Opera Company, Diaspora Opera of Washington, GALA Hispanic Theater, Zarzuela Di Si, the Singers Opera and the IN Series. With the Pan American Symphony Orchestra she has been featured in concert and opera performances of De Falla’s El amor brujo, Granados' Goyescas, Torroba's Luisa Fernanda, De Falla’s La Vida Breve and opera galas and benefits. She also participated at the International Opera Festival in Rome, Italy playing Marcellina in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro. Her rich and expressive voice has won Ms. Castrello numerous awards, including “Best Latino Female Vocalist” at the Washington Area Music Awards, Award-winner at the Gulf Coast Regional Auditions for the Metropolitan Opera and the “Operatic Singing Artist of the Year Award” from the Institute of Puerto Rico in New York, among others. In addition to her opera appearances, Ms. Castrello has been presenting her shows Soul of Latin America, Latin American Essence and Sabor y vida/Essence and Life directed by Abel Lopez, in Washington DC at the Smithsonian Museums, The Mexican Cultural Institute, the Millennium Stage of the Kennedy Center and throughout the United States. That program, devoted to song classics from south of the border, is the inspiration of her first solo CD titled Anamer Castrello Latin American Mezzo, Latin American Hits, featuring a mixture of many Latin American music styles. She is a vocal instructor for Suitland High School with PG County Public Schools. And most recently she is a Teaching Artist with the Washington National Opera in their Education and Community Programs. Anamer Castrello is a proud member of the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) and Actor’s Equity Association.
