Juan Carlos Zorzi, Argentina
Juan Carlos Zorzi, Argentine-born composer and conductor, studied at both the Municipal and National Conservatories in Buenos Aires under Alberto Ginastera, Gilardo Gilardi, Floro M. Ugarte, and Juan F. Giaccobbe, among others.
He has toured several countries as a guest conductor, including the United States, the Soviet Union, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Poland, and South America.
He was Music Director and Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfonica of the University of Cuto and the University of Tucuman and the Symphony Orchestras of Cordoba and Rosario, Argentina, where he is presently conducting. In addition, he was the Conductor-in-Residence of the National Philharmonic Orchestras of Chile, Colombia, and Argentina.
As a composer, he was awarded First Prize from the Argentine National Foundation of the Arts and First Prize from the Fine Arts Institute of Venezuela.
He has written a broad range of works, varying from chamber and symphonic music to operas. Among his best known compositions are Sonata for Violin and Piano, Quintet for Piano and Strings, Adagio Elegioco, Danza para Ahuyentar La Pena (ballet), Requiem for Soloist, Choir, and Orchestra, Fantasia for Cello and Orchestra, Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra, and his operas El timbre and Antigona Velez.
